Games on the Apple Watch

Watching the Apple event live stream yesterday, my mind turned to the gaming opportunities of the new Apple Watch. At one point, the CEO of Niantic demoed an upcoming update to Pokemon Go: players will be able to be notified of Pokemon nearby, as well as activate PokeStops. These notifications are absent from the game thus far.

With an improved processor, as well as built in GPS, this may be the update that allows for the first watch-friendly, hit game.

Best,
Peter

He-Man Tappers of Grayskull

Animoca Brands

Why Play? If you’re at all into tapper games or He-Man, it’s a load of fun. All of the core mechanics expected for the genre are  in place with the addition of chibi style He-Man characters. Players recruit and upgrade Masters of the Universe as DPS, upgrade He-Man, and most importantly summon Battle-Cat.

Marvel Tsum Tsum

XFLAG, Inc.

Why Play? Marvel Tsum Tsum is just the latest in a long popular line of Tsum-Tsum games, and has an associated comic book line as well. This attractive superhero-themed game has two different play modes (timed and boss battles) and the ability to team up with friends.

Narcos: Cartel Wars

FTXGames

Why Play? The new season of Narcos has been released on Netflix this week, and along with it is the “Boom Beach”-inspired mobile game. Despite the copycat nature of the game, it is good to see Netflix original games as editor’s choice games in the app stores.

PolitiCats

R2 Games

Why Play?  In possibly the greatest marriage of current themes possible (clicker game + cats + presidential campaign), PolitiCats is a funny cartoon-themed app that’s more than worth checking out for its comedy, celebrity cats (like Garfield), and a solid core game loop.
